No wonder the Holidays are often a let down

Tonight's Episode of Greys: Holidaze.

1. Mark has a grown daughter? Really? And they can't converse. Really? And she's PG. Really? Well, this gives away the plot for the cross over. Isn't Mark suppose to take a patient to CA for Addison to help. "Someone really important to Mark" ----- Seriously?

2. Mer sees and knows the Chief is drinking again. Even her father confronts her about it, and she really doesn't do much. Keeping a secret. Seeing that she actually might be being used in the is mentor/student relationship after all. Seriously? She doesn't say even a little hint of concern to Derek? Ellis drove two men in her life to drink -- Thatcher and Richard. I wonder if she also was a driving factor for Meredith's love of Tequila? "A great surgeon, just like her mother" comment would really make her want a shot, I'm sure.

3. One can live that long without a heart and be awake and moving on just bypass? Seriously?

4. One mention of Izzie? With Callie at the hospital, just WHO made the fancy dinner? No thoughts of George?

OK, I've ranted enough. I have to admit I am usually really tolerant and accepting of where and what Grey's is doing. But, for a 3-holiday episode, this was rather boring. I even let my hubby ramble on about medical stuff instead of 'shushing' him up, knowing I can watch it again tomorrow. Which I'll do.............

I will have to fill my holidays with fanfictions and this new offering being made at the ABC website I suppose.

I hate it when people just seem to fall off the end of the earth.............

I hate to think that various people in the cyber/fan worlds just sometimes fall off the ends of the earth. However, I have been known to do the same.

I have enjoyed stories by the GA fanfic author known as McDreamer100 (Angie?) over the last couple of years. A couple of her stories made my favorites list recently. The last known information I can see of her GA existence is back in 2007. Does anyone know if this author is still around? Writing under a different name? Been assimilated into real life?

Thank God my hubby didn't work from home this morning. Patrick Dempsey was on both Good Morning America and Live! With Regis and Kelly this morning. He was really cute and quite funny this morning. I was giggly and giddy just watching. Silly me! I am quite sure he was still wearing his suit bits from the Avon Fundraiser/Gala the night before. Jill was just off stage, but no photo. If she was still dressed up, then it would confirm the couple just never really made it back to the hotel all night. He mentioned something about being good to get away with her. Presuming they left the kids back in LA with care taker.

I'm sure the clips can be soon found on ABC.com or You Tube. The only odd thing, was on Live! he was sitting on chairs that showed his legs and feet more than on ABC. He had on brown boot/shoes that I though clashed with his dark or black suit pants. Maybe he changed his shoes after the party.

He mentioned flying back to LA tonight, so I'm presuming he'll be on the David Letterman show tonight and then catch the last flight out of NYC.

Love the blogger's title of tomorrow's GA, Derekpaloozza!

Love the McDreamy moment the last two episodes..........

I love how Shonda and writer's brought back the phrase "McDreamy", even if it's for a minute. In the Season opener episodes, Dr. Arizona Robbins needs help getting an expensive, specific test for a patient. Dr. Shepherd makes it happen. While they are waiting for results she makes the comment to his face about him being "Dr. McDreamy" and how she now gets it. So, cute ---- and wonderfully endearing and uncomfortable for Dr. Shepherd. And, then again in last night's episode when Derek was there to personally see people off and say comforting words and hugs to those who had been fired. Stepping into the role the Chief should have done. Instead the Chief sneaks out the backdoor before the HR email comes out.

Of course, he's all caring and concerned for Meredith and friends, but I do like bring back the old favorite "McDreamy" phrase.

Hello all you Grey's Anatomy fanfiction fans! As promised I am trying to post my "MacSmitty's List". So, this is a trial effort. These 64 stories are selected from my favorites on www.fanfiction.net They are in no particular order nor by author. I did bold the title and author. I do not think the direct links transfered. You can go the website and search for these by title or author. Or you can search for my list in this way: Search for MacSmitty under 'authors'. You will get a response that I have written 0 stories. However, my name will be highlighted and if you click it, you will be allowed to see the list. Within the Fanfiction.net website they have links to these stories.

There are many more stories that have made my favorites list, but are on other websites. So, I need to find and list them separately, and hopefully with links. If you find a story or author you enjoyed, please make an effort to leave a response at FF.net or elsewhere. Many of them have LJ pages.

Please comment to help me improve this list. I would like to find a way to post this and then always have a link on my FB in the side bar for others to refer to it. I do not know how to do that yet. If you have any suggestions, please do offer them up. Should I publish this list in this manner? By author? By dates?

I believe that all of these stories are Derek/Meredith centered. Some have other characters, but they are my favorites on the show. I'm just not as moved by the other couples.

Shopping at Target. Bonus GA Season 5 CD....

Hey all!

Referring to a conversation on the ABC Grey's board about shopping for the Season 5 GA in Target vs. Amazon. Target was indeed offering an additional bonus CD than Amazon. I bought BOTH! I had preordered the Season 5 Grey's DVD set from Amazon and it arrived today. I did not take it out of the new plastic wrap. I also was a Target this morning and bought the same DVD set. It DOES INDEED have an extra (8th) disk that is not in the Amazon purchase. It is in a paper sleeve that is not inside the folding clamshell. So, I could see the difference between the 2 packages without taking off the plastic. I'll be making a return to Amazon tomorrow. I paid the SAME $36.99 for both sets --- Amazon and Target. So, if you all want the extra disk with a few more deleted scenes, anatomy of special effects and a few more things --- then rush thee to Target. It makes me feel good to know I've got something to watch the next few days as I have been infected with the first cold virus of the season.

I am just beside myself laughing at the new sneak peak of the Season 6 GA premier. There was a hint in a review that Derek and Meredith are enjoying being newlyweds in lots of places. Go to Grey's Gabble website or to YouTube for a viewing. And if you look at the still shots also out there, you can see one of naked Derek behind the kitchen door talking to Lexie, as if to say the kitchen is "off limits" this morning.

Frustration in the FanFiction Search........

Oh, I am EXHAUSTED! I've been searching the internet for 3 days for any links to two older GA fanfictions. Several people have answered my call, but they have not offered suggestions that are the matches for the 2 stories I am searching for. These are not new Grey's fanfictions, so they may be hidden on some boards or sites that have long been forgotten. I don't remember the title or authors.

1. Meredith flies off to a medical conference and the plane crashes near the Great Lakes/Michigan region. She is presumed dead, but in reality washed ashore elsewhere and was found to have amnesia. She has to start her life over. I think she even ends up as a police officer. Eventually she makes her way back to SG. As it turns out someone is out to kill her. Something to do with her mother's research information.

2. Meredith leaves Seattle to escape Addison and Derek. While she is gone she discovers she has cancer. Multiple Myloma perhaps. She comes back for treatment, but tries to hide the diagnosis from Derek for sometime. It's finally revealed and she ends up needing a bone marrow transplant. Even though all her friends and Derek want to be the hero, only Mark's marrow is the match. He tries to remain a secret and he and Derek are still fighting. In the end she ends up as a fellow and travels away again. She ends up finding a treatment/cure for Alzheimer's.

I'm so frustrated that I can not find these stories, and need to be part of life again. Please help, suggestions, links, any thoughts would be greatly rewarded with a cyber thank you and the warm feeling of a job well done.

I'm off on a Mission trip to Nicaragua this week. How I will MISS the email, fanfictions and Livejournal. My house is NOT unattended and my children are NOT alone. So, no one need try to break in. I only speak Sesame Street Spanish, but thankfully most of the others in my small group have been to this location before and speak passable Spanish. We are mostly working and helping to build a greenhouse. Not too much conversation anyways. Wish me well. And I truly hope for some great updates this week to my favorite Grey's Fanfictions --- and you writers know who you are!!

Not that I post all that often nor have that much to say. But, I thought it polite to tell that I will be on vacation MIA for a bit. Imagine I'll be back by 1 July. How I will miss the GA world of wondering, speculating, news tid bits and fanfictions. Save some good ones for me.

Oucellogal, I will think of you often with the new baby. Hope you get another 'mini-vacation' soon. I highly recommend some kind of massage or pedicure with your Starbucks next time. Not to be mean, however, I will be where you want to be for vacation. Think of it as a 'scouting trip', I'll share all the good and bad with you and then you decide if you and family want to save for "parts tropical" for the future. =)

Here is a link to a video link I found that tours the new Dempsey family. This is obviously NOT Patrick shopping, but is on a real estate TV show. Hope it works for you all. I understand that the decor is not that of Patrick and Jillian, but rather that of a home stager or "fluffer". And I think he ended up buying it for much less than it was first listed for. I do hope he can sell his other home soon. That's got to be tight to have such mortgages, even for the very famous.

redemption.

After watching this episode "No Good at Saying Sorry", I could say and examine lots. But, what I came away with and stayed with me all night is this. Meredith only wanted the apology from the Chief. As much as they both fought the relationship and history they shared, deep down it was the apology from the Chief that really mattered. She'd said goodbye to her father Thatcher a long time ago. Thatcher's apology and promise to do better just really didn't matter to her. Perhaps she only say him as a memory of a 5 year old and he would always stay that way. He is not part of her family.

But the Chief does matter. They both fight the feeling that they are or are not family. Even Derek sees that Chief treats her different, like family. Chief really had the role of someone in the family. Maybe she really liked him when she was younger and didn't know he was the one having an affair with her mom. Maybe she didn't know what she was needing from him as an adult. The memory of him not helping her or being advocate was more important to her than her real father.

I never could quite figure out where all this anger and extra stern tone and blame from Chief towards Meredith came from. But, what I see now is that he was angry at himself for the way he cared about her and was unable to come to terms about the past and what he did or didn't do.

Chief first claims his only sin was that he fell in love with Mer's mom. I really think he actually fell in love with little Mer too. That's where all this guilt comes in.

Twice Mer has said "You are not my father", and yet twice soon after she has allowed herself to cry on his shoulder. The body language and the invisible script in my head says the response from the Chief is "But, I wish I had been......."

His apology mattered and can start to make it better. Asking forgiveness and giving forgiveness should not be given or taken lightly. Being forced to do so, without meaning it, just adds layers to the anger. There is many and for much that I have not given forgiveness in my own life. I am not a person prone to anger or grudges, so I don't relish hanging on to these feelings. But, the time has not been right in my life to accept someone else's apology. I don't know when that will be, I just know that I can't force it.

The rest of the show was interesting as well. I don't have anything much to comment yet on the other story lines. I do wish Derek had a bit more to say, even though I can see he was just trying to observe and understand all the situations going on around him and allowing others to vent, plan, or what ever around him. "OK" seems to be most of what he had to say. Until he finally spoke to the Chief.

I do hope at some point in the crazy wedding planning he can finally stop the madness and really ask Meredith if this type of wedding is really what she wants to start their life together. She's trying to please so many people right now, and has to remember to please herself for her wedding day. As she said last night "I'm the bride, I have to be there." And I know many of you don't like how the Chief has been acting,(TortieCat86 I think of you at this point in light of what you recently shared) but if she has to ask someone to give her away, I'd rather like to see the Chief do it instead of Thatcher. However, somehow I really think she'll walk the aisle herself.

That's all I have to say on this day.

Hi again! I'm looking for anyone that can volunteer a nice place to pick from some 100x100 photos to upload as User Pics on the LJ page. I have none, and don't really want to put my real mug on there. I'd have to start charging for use of my photo and the paps would be chasing me around.

I don't actually even have to have a GA user pic. Some nice zebra strips would be nice. Is that too 80's?

Dear All GA friends and foes,

I'm looking for the You Tube clip or DVD clip of a segment of Grey's that I would have called "The Grey's Primer". It's a humorous clip only a few minutes long of who is who and who did what and who slept with who on the previous seasons. I think it might be hosted by JDM. Very similar to the 'Seriously" video clip.

I have all the DVDs and can't remember if it's an extra on that or if ABC put it together. It's very funny.

McHubby has been forced into watching Season 5 of GA with us, and is now ready for a little more education on the stories.

Silly random thoughts #10:

In response to Aria's comments about American Radio. I agree and disagree. Although we have a CD and iTunes collection in the thousand. I have recently gotten my hands on some Foy Vance (Homebird and Vagabond) , which until recently was only available in the UK. I find that I turn on my local radio most days and while making dinner, as it's in the kitchen. The station I like most plays today's Adult Alternative, some current top 40 hits and songs from the 80's. Don't I feel just a little like I'm a target. Middle aged mom, from the 80's trying to keep current in music. And, often liking the same bands my teen daughter does?!! Not allowed to by the CDs she likes.

Anyway, there is a bonus to American radio. Several times an evening the State Farm insurance ad runs on my radio station and i have to just stop my kitchen prep and soak in the soothing sounds of Patrick's reassuring message that State Farm is my friend. Never mind that I actually have all my insurance with a different company.

I also am trying to figure out how to get a line from the movie Lucky 7 as my ring tone. Does anyone know how to do that? How lucky to KNOW that at one time or another, smooth voiced Patrick has uttered MY name! What a ring tone, don't you think?

The Dark Side of Derek and Tequila toasts

Wow! Another gripping episode of GA. My big complaint is there is just not enough! A cross over series and I still feel like we are only getting started on the Dark Side of Derek and of course hardly any Meredith interaction with him. She's quietly there, but I wonder how many scenes were cut out and on the edit room floor? In general there was way too much Private Private. I rather like Addison and if she wants to come back to GA, great. PP is on it's last legs. It's too serious and 'yucky' in a way I can't describe. At least GA has humor. I didn't even finish watching last night's episode.

Derek: Most fans and bloggers have already touched on the subject of Derek's God complex and the reality that so often he misses being able to save the ones he really wants to save. The comments from the serial killer are still in my mind and having someone call him a "murderer" in just his undoing. I'm not sure he's done unraveling. The ending of this episode, with the 2 of them drinking (or at least Drunk to be Derek) on the couch, rather reminds me of Aria Adagio's fanfiction, So You Are to Me. Of course, her story was a different setting in the Mer/Der history and more conversation. Great story. Go check it out. I'm hoping she's inspired enough to write again. I've read a few interesting ideas and predictions by others on LJ. What's next for Mer and Der? A proposal? Who will do it? A wedding? A baby? I'm staying with the story just to see if anything useful, resolution or more love comes out of this story line. GA is taking a 3 week vacation, perhaps they write that into the story line that Derek is forced into a 3 week vacation to recover and we'll pick up soon after. I can imagine lots of good FF stories playing off that scene. Derek looked like he was really weeping when pouring a drink. In slow mo replay, it does look like Mer does not drink.

Mer is sympathetic. Her way of coping has been drinking and from her sideways glance she has to be wondering if she's doing the right thing offering him a night of drinking to numb the pain and the ghosts.

I always like the episodes when I watch them on TV, even if I dwell on bits all week to decide what I did or didn't like. However exciting and shocking of the fight scene between Derek and Mark I can't help but think 3 things:

1. Derek's attack was definitely psych. transference --- Mark just happened to be the safest, nearest moving target to strike.

2. I wonder if this fight scene hasn't played its self out previously a few times in their growing up years. Derek always being the underdog. Remember he threw a punch at Mark in season? when he saw Mark first meeting Mer. But, he has to shake out his hand good each time. He's not the stronger one.

3. For all those punches thrown by 2 grown men, there was not enough damage to hands or blood. It is unlikely that they both could have survived those punches without more damage to their knuckles.

Izzie. We all know she's been sick for while and just waiting as one symptom is shown a week. I'm pretty sure we are dealing with Melanoma. Skin cancer that has already spread and metastasized to her brain. Thus, the blind spots in her vision (re: scissors and finishing line tape), visions of Denny and more really are signs. It can spread quietly and kill quickly. Especially in the younger body. It claimed the life of young, promising singer Eva Cassidy. She became a success after her death. I really don't believe at this time Izzie and George are leaving the show. But, I could see that Derek is recruited to be her surgeon in a future show and has to revisit all these issues of being the good doctor again.

Alex: If Izzie is sick or really does die. I sort of saw a foreshadow of a scene someday when HE is the one crying over Izzie. It all waits to be seen.

This was inspired by the photo caption contest on www.greysanatomyinsider.com It might help to view the photo on the website that has many of the doctors gathered around one patient in a recent episode. I've never written anything GA, nor any other show before. I just couldn't resist. This is not an entry to any fanfiction contest. Just a little Holiday humor. And if you groan because it's so corny, then I've succeeded! The reader must have a little working knowledge of the Christmas movie called Christmas Story.

Christina: Cheap dollar store brand. We need 3M in here!! The best they have. That means you, 4. MOVE!!!

Intern returns with "new and improved, quality, transparent, gift wrapping tape". Dr. Sloan grabs it before Yang can get rid of the old one.

Sloan: OK, now we've got it. Yang, hold this corner like your career depends on it. We don't want any of the tissue paper showing. No leaks, people. "This is really FRAGILE", he says dragging the word out in all it's sounds, "It's from Italy, you know. "

Hunt:. I think that's it people. We've got it. Crisis averted. Everyone let go on the count of 3. 1, 2, 3......

Silence as they all watch and wait with baited breath.

Lexie: Popping head into exam room. "Hurry up! He's coming. "

Shepherd: This is it. Everyone ready? Cover it up, places people!!

The Chief rounds the corner and strolls into the exam room ready to take charge. "What is going on in here that requires 3 attendings and numerous 2nd year residents? We've got a hospital to run, folks. "

Hunt: Uh, Chief, we've got something really bad here............

Chief: Well, let's see it.

The doctors part a path to the exam table and remove the sheet from the patient on the table.

All: Merry Christmas, Chief!!!

As the chief approaches the exam table, he is taken aback by a wrapped gift is on the exam table. A very large, strange item. He then realizes this is a gift for him.
The Chief is taken back and touched by the gesture of his faithful posse. Until he makes out the shape of the item. He's not sure if it's safe to open this in the ER. For all he can make out it looks like.....................A LEG LAMP.

I just am trying to send KUDOS to all those authors over at The Elevator Fanfictions. The series of Secret Santas fics is just marvelous. Some of the best Holiday Mer/Der stories I've read. THANK YOU!!! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all.

Derek in the morning.........

Before we all get sucked into the next GAs, tomorrow, I want to make an observation about last week. Everyone has said their pieces about the big stories in last week. But, I have had an unanswered 'derek moment".

1. What was he wearing going to answer the door? Was that HIS cardigan sweater he was putting on or one of the girls? I even said outloud "What on earth is he wearing"? And Sadie thought he was hot in his jammies.

2. And what was with the very large FLOWERED mug in the kitchen? Very girly.

Does anyone else think he's been living in the 'frat house' just a bit too long? =)

As for those other plot lines on GA:
I didn't really care for Erika Hahn as a character nor a beauty. Her character was rough with little intrigue for me. The relationship with Callie was only interesting to me when they were trying to figure out which end is up. And truly, I thought it really a topic to create humor with Mark and Bailey getting the best one liners. I don't have an opinion if the affair should have continued or if the whole plot line was fair the way it ended. I would be sad to see Callie/Sara leave the show as I think she's a wonderful actress. Like many out there, I think there are too many characters on the show though. It takes away from Meredith and her main friends, not to mention Derek.

Izzie and Denny. I have no idea what's going on?!! But, I'm not angry about it. I'm willing to go along for the ride and have nothing against sharks. Just don't bite me. =) Shonda and writers always seem to surprize us with what we not expecting. And sometimes in the end, we like it.

Derek's mom. Well it's about time we find out something about Derek. Tyne Daly is a fine actress, but not the physical match I would have first cast. But, I am not a casting director by profession. So, I'm willing to give her a chance. All I remember is the scene with Derek and Nancy. After she lists off the reasons she came and the things left to find out about, he says to her "You are sounding more and more like Mom". Her reply "Take it Back!". So, I imagine she's a no nonsense sort who manages to get things done with little room for argument. Being a mom to 5 children, plus Mark can't leave room for a pansy mom. I do hope it's humorous and heartwarming for her to meet Meredith. What's the adage for a young bride to be: " If you want to see how he will treat you when you are older, watch how he treats his mom". Therefore, I'll be watching Derek and how he treats his mom. =)

Off to find some good fanfiction to pass the time until tomorrow night. Suggestions welcome! MacSmitty
